In construction, competence and safety are everything. While nationally recognised schemes such as NPORS and CPCS are widely respected across the industry, there are many situations where companies choose to work with a training provider that offers in-house certification. This approach can provide practical, operational, and commercial benefits depending on the organisation’s needs.
Here at Construction Training Services, we offer several courses on our in-house certification CTSL. All our in-house training is aligned with Industry standards, and we will always discuss with you in detail if this training route is right for the work you are undertaking. Like other awarding bodies, your certificate can last 5 years but if you would like this to last for a shorter period, then this can be discussed. This is one of the key advantages of in-house certification: the ability to tailor the training directly to the work being carried out
In-house certification is particularly useful when:
- Workers will only operate equipment within one organisation
- Tasks are low-risk or tightly supervised
- Training is needed for short-term projects or temporary roles
In these cases, the full external certification route may not always be necessary.
Importantly, in-house certification is not necessarily an alternative to schemes like NPORS or CPCS, but often a complementary solution. Many organisations use a combination of both—external certification for roles requiring industry portability, and in-house training for internal operational competence.
Choosing between in-house certification and nationally recognised schemes depends largely on the scope of work, workforce mobility, and organisational requirements.
